Homeroom 9B - Canada Rocks permission slip and $10 fee MUST be in tomorrow!  Food drive continues…bring in non-perishable items to support the Lion’s Club Christmas campaign.

English 9B – Quiz tomorrow on chapters 16-20 of Cue for Treason.

English 531/631 – Today we read chapter 12 of The Light in the Forest.  All classwork for chapters 11 and 12 has been collected for marking.

English 431 – Today, we started Part 2 (Chapter 12 ) in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Wednesday, December 9th

Homeroom 9B – Students attending ‘Canada Rocks’ on Friday, Dec. 18th are to return permission slips and $10 fee ASAP.  A reminder to all students of the food drive challenge – please take in some non-perishable food items for the Lion’s Club Christmas boxes.

English 9B – Students had a quiz today and will continue reading from Cue for Treason.

English 531/631 – Monday’s test has been graded and the marks given to those who wrote it.  We continue to read The Light in the Forest.  Questions and vocabulary assigned in class are taken in for marks on a regular basis…there are some students who are not managing to get this work done!  This will have an affect on your final mark!

English 431 - On Friday, students watched the portion of To Kill a Mockingbird that they had already read.  We continue to read the novel together in class.  Judging by the first test, everyone is doing well understanding the book thus far!

Monday, November 30th

English 9B -  We are lucky to have UPEI pre-service teacher Liam Walker teaching our class for     the next two weeks.  He has introduced a new pre-Shakesperian novel Cue for Treason which we will work on for the next three weeks.  Homework during this time will be related to this novel.

English 531/631 – Students received excellent marks for the slide show presentations done this month.  Well done everyone!  We have just finished work on a persuasive essay, and will start our final novel, Light in the Forest, tomorrow.

English 431 – We have started reading To Kill a Mockingbird.  We will read this together in class.

Tuesday, November 3rd

Homeroom 9B – Please return consent forms for H1N1 vaccinations ASAP.  Vaccinations are scheduled to take place next week.

English 9B – Independent novel study is due on Thursday; chapter questions and activity sets for No Signature are due at the end of Friday’s class.

English 531/631 – Today students were to complete a chart, answer questions and work on  vocabualry words from a non-fiction piece in our textbook.  The computer lab has been booked for Thursday and Friday to finish slide show projects.

English 431 – Today we started work on a non fiction piece with a focus on how to make notes.  We will continue work on our projects later in the week.

Grade nine students will spend tomorrow at job placements for the day.  I look forward to hearing about everyone’s experiences on Thursday!

Monday, November 2nd

Homeroom 9B – H1N1 consent forms should be signed and returned ASAP in order to get the vaccination.  ‘Take Our Kids to Work’ takes place on Wednesday….there are still several students who have not returned consent forms!  Tomorrow is the deadline!

English 9B – We have finished reading No Signature.  This week, students are to wrap up the chapter questions, and complete the novel assignment (3 activity sets).

English 531/631 – Today we started work on the first major project of the course, which is a slide show presentation.  Today we spent time in the computer lab doing research.

English 431 – Today we went to the computer lab to start research for our presentations.

Homeroom 9BReturn signed consent forms for Take Our Kids to Work Day ASAP!

English 9B – Students should have read up to the end of Chapter 22, and have the answers to the corresponding questions completed.

English 531/631 – Today our class went to the career fair. 

English 431 – Today we worked on vocabulary from a piece on Canadian basketball trivia, and then went to the library to finish reasearch for our own trivia games.

Thursday, October 22nd

Homeroom 9B – Please arrange work placements, and return signed permission slips ASAP.

English 9B – Today we read chapters 7 & 8 together, answered some questions and finished up yesterday’s vocabulary work.  Weekly homework assignments went out today…they are due back on Tuesday.

English 531/631 – Today we worked on our third non fiction selection.  We continue to focus on pre reading and during reading stategies to improve reading comprehension.

English 431 – Today we read an article using the jigsaw technique.  The article was read in halves by students, who then met and shared what they read with each other.  Tomorrow we will look at reading strategies for reading poetry.

Homeroom 9B – immunization forms, Take Our Kids to Work placement and signed permission slip

English 9B – Today students read silently chapters 5 & 6 and answered questions concerning these chapters.  Tomorrow we will do some vocabulary work and continue on to chapters 7 & 8.

English 531/631 - Today Mrs. Peters gave a presentation in class regarding next week’s career fair.  In addition, we finished our vocabulary work from yesterday’s lesson.

English 431 – We spent today working on a different way to tackle new vocabulary in a text.  (We also learned a little Spanish, thanks to Diana, our exchange student from Mexico :)

Homeroom 9BReminders:  Several students have still not had their immunization consent forms signed.  In addition, students are also reminded to arrange their work placements for Take Our Kids to Work Day, which will be on November 4th.  Consent forms for this day should also be returned ASAP.

English 9B – Today we went over the answers from our last short story, “The Mona Lisa”.  We then started our first class novel, No Signature by William Bell.  We will continue reading from this novel tomorrow.

English 531/631 – Today we started to work from the textbook.  We will be reading a variety of forms of writing, and will focus on reading strategies.  We will finish today’s piece tomorrow.

English 431 – Today we started to work from the textbook.  We will also be reading a variety of forms of writing, and will focus on learning strategies which will help us to be better readers.

Homeroom 9B – Lots of reminders…

  • Monthly behaviour reports must be signed and returned by the end of this week.
  • Imunization consent forms are due back on Thursday.
  • Photo orders must be placed by Thursday.
  • Yearbooks can be ordered in homeroom tomorrow, Thursday and Friday.

English 9B – Today we looked at a second short story, called “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan.  We will pick up where we left off on Thursday, as tomorrow we will be doing a grammar lesson.

English 531/631 – Today we finished the movie Of Mice and Men.  Tomorrow will be the final test for this novel.

English 431 – Today we worked on our end of novel writing asignment.  Tomorrow is the final test for the novel.
