English 521 – Yesterday, we finished the Merchant of Venice. Today, we went over the exam outline, and started watching the movie version of the play. We will finish the movie tomorrow.

English 9A – Today students finished ‘rehearsing’ their lists of instructions which they will use in their expository essays. Rough drafts need to be ready for tomorrow – we will be typing good copies to be handed in at the end of class.

Social Studies 8C - We finished up the chapter discussing Canada’s political regions, and learned about the advantages of living in the core, and the challenges of living on the periphery. Students received an outline of their upcoming group project on regional identity and stereotypes. We will begin work on this project tomorrow.

English 521 – Today, we reviewed Act III Scenes IV & V; as well as the first part of Act IV Scene I. Today, we finished Scenes I & II. If you were absent, please read these on your own, and answer the corresponding questions. Use spark notes if you have difficulty.

Tomorrow, the three students who did not do their wham/slam will perform it in class. All outstanding major assignments are due tomorrow!

English 521 – We reviewed Act III Scenes 2 and 3, and covered Scenes 4 & 5 and part of ActIV Scene 1.

REMINDER: Outstanding major assignments are due on WEDNESDAY.

English 9A – No English tomorrow (don’t forget your permission slips!). For Wednesday, have your rough draft completed, and bring in any necessary materials to follow your list of instructions.

English 521 – Today, students were given the opportunity to work on the ‘Do it for the Ducats’ assignment. This is due on Monday, January 23rd.

English 9A – We began work on our next major writing assignment, expository writing. Students were asked to come up with a list of possible ideas which they could use to create a set of instructions. Monday we will work on independent novel studies, and finish the ad presentations. For Wednesday, make sure you bring the materials needed to follow your set of instructions.

English 521 – Today, we covered Act III Scenes 2 and 3. Tomorrow is the only class time that will be given for the ‘Do it for the Ducats’ assignment. Make sure you take any materials you need to do this.

English 9A – Today, we used our class to work individually on independent novel studies. Tomorrow, we begin work on our next writing task, looking at organizing ideas.

English 621 – Today, we reviewed yesterday’s scenes and covered Act II Scene IX and Act III Scene I. Students are encouraged to work on their ‘Do it for the Ducats’ assignment which is due on January 23rd (no late submissions accepted!).

Important reminder for students who owe major assignments: In order to remain eligible for the credit, you must pass in completed assignments no later than 3:00 on Wednesday, January 18th.

English 9A – Tomorrow is day six, and is therefore set aside for work on the independent novel study. Bring all necessary material.

Social Studies 8C – Complete both sides of the first handout on the growth and decline of settlements. Tomorrow, we will review the answers, and continue to look at the world’s megacities.

English 521 – Today, we went over the requirements for the last assignment, ‘Do it for the Ducats’. We then reviewed the scenes we covered yesterday; Act II Scenes 2,3,4,5 & 6. Today we covered Scenes 7 & 8.

Social Studies 8C – Yesterday, we continued to look at settlement patterns in Canada. Students are expected to finish the handout on ‘site and situation’ for tomorrow’s class.

English 9A – Today, we finished our analyzing media assignment, and began presentations and discussion. We will continue with these tomorrow.

English 521 – Today, we covered Act I Scene III (our introduction to Shylock) and Act II Scene I (back to Belmont). Students are encouraged to review what we have covered so far, and to look at their feedback from the literary essay and poetry explication in preparation for the final exam. The remaining poetry explications will be returned Monday. Those who owe major assignments have been notified.

English 9A – We have continued work on our analyzing print media assignment. We do not have class on Monday; on Tuesday we will wrap up the assignment. Students are expected to work on their independent novel study at home.

Social Studies 8C – Please complete to the end of #5 on the second sheet of the handout for Monday.

Welcome Back!

English 521 – Tomorrow, we will view the last book trailer, and the glogster posters. We will then begin Merchant of Venice.

English 9A – Day 6 and one class on Day 2 will be devoted to independent novel study for the month of January. This project is due at the beginning of February. Yesterday, we started the media unit of study. Tomorrow, we will begin the first assignment for this unit.

Social Studies 8C – We have begun chapter three in the text, looking at Canada’s people. We are now focusing on settlement patterns. Students are to complete to the end of #5 of the second sheet of the handout for next class, which will be on Monday.
